Bulgaria and Romania should work together to support the minorities of the Republic of Moldova

The second part of Cross-border Talks' interview with Mihai Isac focuses on his perspective of a Romanian towards the relations between the Romanian-speakers and the Bulgarian-speakers in Bessarabia and especially in the Republic of Moldova. He reminded of the history of the Bulgarian and Gagauz community in Bessarabia and that the relationship between them and the Romanian-speakers has seen both better and worse times. The main problem of Bulgarians in the Republic of Moldova is not that much the issue of rights, according to Isac, but that its areas are getting depopulated so after some decades it could disappear. Mihai Isac reminds the specific historical link of Bulgarians in Bessarabia with Russia and admits it is difficult for that to undergo evolution for a number of reason. Also, in his view the Moldovan political parties didn't offer plenty of possibilities to the Bulgarians and the Gagauz community. On the issue of Bulgarians and attitude towards unionism, Isac reminded that Russia-leaning parties offer them empty promises for autonomy. "I think that in the future Bulgaria and Romania should start working towards helping the Bulgarian community in Moldova", no matter whether there will be Romanian-Molodvan union or not. Isac also mentioned that the Bulgarian university of Taraclia could have been merged with some Bulgarian university, as it happens with some Romanian universities and universities of the Republic of Moldova.
